Pakistan’s crackdown continues in GB, timber traders face hammer

May 06, 2019

Diamer, Gilgit Baltistan, May 06, 2019:- Hundreds of legal timber traders from the illegally occupied region of Pakistan are demonstrating against the government of Pakistan as they have been asked to pay unreasonable taxes on the stock they will be selling in other parts of the country. They dub the taxes as a part of the line of exploitative policies that are being employed by Islamabad to hinder the growth of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The traders have blocked the Karakoram highway, which links the region to Pakistan. They accuse Islamabad of conveniently altering, repealing, and even introducing legislation to damage the trade of Gilgit-Baltistan. They said that they are bearing the brunt of one such policy.
