Trump calls for impeachment and prosecution of Harris

Sep 30, 2024

Washington [US], September 30: Former US President Donald Trump called for the 'impeachment and prosecution' of Vice President Kamala Harris during a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania (USA).
During a campaign speech in Erie on September 29, Mr. Trump said Ms. Harris should be disqualified from the presidential race, resign and be investigated at the highest level. Mr. Trump made the above statement when presenting the massive wave of immigration at the US-Mexico border.
US Republican presidential candidate Trump criticized the immigration policy of US President Joe Biden's administration. "Ms. Harris should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions," Mr. Trump said, according to ABC News.
Vice President Harris visited the US-Mexico border on September 28, her first trip to the region in more than three years. Speaking in Douglas, Arizona, Democratic presidential candidate Harris called for tougher security measures and criticized Trump for supporting the rejection of a bipartisan bill earlier this year.
Harris's trip and Trump's comments on border security come as immigration is a top issue for many voters ahead of the November election.
A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll found that 70% of voters consider immigration at the southern border an important issue for them. Mr. Trump leads Ms. Harris by 10% on immigration processing.
In another development, at a fundraiser in Los Angeles, Vice President Kamala Harris on September 29 expressed optimism about her chances of winning against Mr. Trump in the presidential election in November, while emphasizing that the race is "tightly tied."
Democratic presidential candidate Harris also reiterated many of her views on the economy and drew contrasts between her proposals and Mr. Trump's. She also took aim at Mr. Trump's crowd size, according to CNN.
On the same day, Vice President Harris' campaign said it had raised $55 million through two fundraising events hosted by the Harris Victory Fund in California last weekend. Harris's campaign has been on a fundraising spree since President Biden dropped out of the race in July. Harris raised nearly $190 million in August, more than four times the $44.5 million raised by former President Trump's campaign.
