North Korean leader opens important meeting, South Korean president makes firm statement

Seoul [South Korea], June 29: At the 10th plenary session of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea mentioned above, 5 items on the agenda were approved. KCNA did not detail the agenda, according to Reuters.
The meeting, chaired by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un , was aimed at "reviewing the work done in the first half of the year and deciding on a series of important issues at hand," according to KCNA.
The above meeting took place after North Korea and Russia on June 19 restored an agreement signed during the Cold War when the leaders of the two countries met in Pyongyang and agreed to provide military support if they were attacked, according to Reuters.
Meanwhile, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on June 28 that his country will overcome North Korea's "provocations" and other global challenges by strengthening trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan, according to Yonhap News Agency.
President Yoon made the above statement in a message read on his behalf at the opening ceremony of the 10th annual peace forum co-organized by Yonhap and South Korea's Ministry of Unification.
Mr. Yoon said his administration is doing its best to overcome such crises and challenges, and "fully restore" the South Korea-US alliance after its establishment in 2022 and expand it into a "global comprehensive strategic alliance."
Mr. Yoon also noted that South Korea's relationship with Japan was normalized under his administration, leading to the Korea-US-Japan summit in the US in August 2023 and opening up "new horizons." " in trilateral economic and security cooperation, according to Yonhap.
