Beirut [Lebanon], July 14: Several people were injured in an Israeli drone attack on a vehicle near the village of Kfar Tebnit in southern Lebanon, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported.
A Lebanese security source confirmed that two civilians were fetching water from a roadside stream in the Deir Mimas area of southern Lebanon when they were killed in an "Israeli airstrike", according to AFP.
Hezbollah said it retaliated by launching dozens of rockets at the northern Israeli border town of Kiryat Shmona. Hezbollah also carried out several attacks on Israeli military positions along the Israel-Lebanon border on July 13.
Hezbollah also said it had launched rockets "in response to the Israeli enemy's aggression against villages... and civilians in the south".
The Israeli military said four soldiers were injured, one of them seriously, after Israeli air defences intercepted most of "approximately 15 launches... identified as coming from Lebanon".
The Israeli military also said it later struck a Hezbollah field commander operating in the (Kfar) Tebnit area of southern Lebanon.
Earlier, the Israeli military announced that its soldiers had identified two Hezbollah members in the Deir Mimas area of southern Lebanon who were preparing to launch a projectile toward Israeli territory and targeted them.
Hezbollah has fought Israeli forces almost daily in support of its ally Hamas since an attack by Hamas gunmen on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, prompted Israeli retaliation in the Gaza Strip .
In Lebanon, cross-border violence has killed more than 500 people since October 2023, mostly militants but also more than 90 civilians, according to AFP. On the Israeli side, at least 29 people have been killed, mostly soldiers, according to Israeli officials.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, largely confined to the border area, has raised fears of a full-scale conflict, according to AFP.
