Former Republican Vice President says Trump is a threat

New York [US], September 8: The Guardian newspaper on September 7 quoted former US Vice President Dick Cheney declaring that he will vote for Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
"In the 248-year history of our country, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He attempted to hijack the results of the most recent election by using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again," he said.
"As citizens, each of us has an obligation to put country above party to protect our constitution. That's why I will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," the Republican politician said.
As the 46th Vice President of the United States, Mr. Cheney held this position from 2001-2009 under former President George W. Bush.
Earlier on September 4, Mr. Cheney's daughter, former Congresswoman Liz Cheney, said she would vote in favor of Ms. Harris, calling former President Trump a "danger," according to Reuters.
"As a conservative, as a believer and a constitutionalist, I have thought deeply about this and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only will I not vote for Donald Trump, but I will also vote for Kamala Harris," Liz Cheney said at an event at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
She later said her father would also vote for Ms Harris, when asked by Atlantic magazine reporter Mark Leibovich.
When asked for comment, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung simply asked, "Who is Liz Cheney?"
Writing on social media, Mr. Trump said that Mr. Cheney and his son were "RINOs," a term he used to refer to members of the Republican Party who were not loyal to him. RINO is a term the former president often used to stand for "Republicans in name only."
