Washington [US], November 28: Several members of the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump have received death threats, including one with a pipe bomb, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said on November 27.
The FBI said Trump's nominees for US Ambassador to the United Nations, Environmental Protection Agency director, and Attorney General were among those receiving death threats .
Specifically, Ms. Elise Stefanik, who was nominated by Mr. Trump to be the US Ambassador to the United Nations, said that her home in New York was threatened with a bomb attack. At that time, she, her husband and their son were driving from Washington DC to their home for Thanksgiving when they were informed of this information.
Lee Zeldin, Trump's pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, was threatened with a pipe bomb at his home. His family was not home at the time.
"The FBI is aware of multiple bomb threats and false emergency reports targeting nominees and appointees (in the future Trump administration), and we are coordinating with local law enforcement partners to respond," AFP said on November 28, citing a statement from the FBI.
A false alarm call is a call to the police at someone's home based on a false claim. Such calls are common in the United States and have been targeted at several prominent political figures in recent years.
Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for President-elect Donald Trump 's transition team , confirmed that several nominees and appointees in the future administration have received death threats.
The White House said President Joe Biden had been briefed on the matter, adding that "President Biden and his administration strongly condemn threats to incite political violence."
Mr. Biden pledged to have a smooth and peaceful transition of power . Meanwhile, the transition of power during former President Trump's first term was marred by the attack on the US Capitol building.
